MIP overlay type
The maximum intensity projection (MIP) of an image could be a useful visualisation technique. I think it would probably best be implemented as a separate overlay type, as this would allow me to easily add MIP-specific options (the data range is the main option I can think of right now).
How to go about implementing it will be fun:
- A 2D slice pre-generated in python? Will need to be re-generated every time the display settings change.
- Real time MIP calculation in a fragment shader? Will be very slow on a software GL driver.
